Split-face tiles are made from natural stone materials cut into small strips and bonded into moulds using adhesive. Due to the irregular shapes and textured surfaces, the bonding process is carried out manually.

If too little adhesive is used, some pieces may become loose or fall off. Conversely, applying more adhesive — which is generally preferred to ensure the tiles remain intact — may result in a small amount of visible glue on the surface. This is a normal and widely accepted characteristic of this product type.

From our experience, using slightly more adhesive is the more reliable option to avoid dislodgement, even though it may lead to minor glue exposure. In the split-face tile industry, a small degree of visible adhesive is considered acceptable. Achieving a flawless, glue-free finish would require discarding a large number of otherwise usable tiles, which is not practical or sustainable in large-scale production.

Once installed, any glue residue is typically barely noticeable from a standard viewing distance — unless closely inspected.

We kindly remind customers not to assess this product by the standards of art-grade items. Split-face tiles are intended to deliver a natural, rugged look over large surface areas, and it is neither realistic nor appropriate to apply art-level expectations to a mass-produced product of this nature.
